US Launches Gemini Mission to Slash Energy Costs Amid AI Power Surge
The US government has launched the Gemini Mission, a new initiative to improve energy efficiency and tackle rising electricity costs. The plan comes as AI’s growing power demands push up prices for households and businesses. Residential electricity rates in America have already climbed 13% since 2022, with data centers set to consume a major share of US electricity by 2028.
Under the Gemini Mission, the Department of Energy will build a new AI platform to share federal scientific data. The system will train AI models and agents for scientific research, opening access to datasets from national labs. Private companies, academic institutions, and government researchers will collaborate through the platform.
The Gemini Mission will bring together government labs, universities, and private firms to cut energy costs and boost research. New AI supercomputers and shared data platforms are expected to accelerate discoveries in critical industries. The initiative arrives as AI’s energy demands grow, putting pressure on electricity grids and household budgets.
