US-Mediated Talks Aim to End Russia-Ukraine War Amid High Stakes

Negotiations to end the Russia-Ukraine war are underway in the US, with American officials acting as mediators. Talks have been described as challenging but manageable by former President Donald Trump, who remains involved in the process. The discussions aim to address key issues like security guarantees and territorial disputes.

Since December 2025, US representatives have hosted multiple rounds of negotiations in Florida, including in Miami. Russian delegates such as Kirill Dmitrijew and Ukrainian officials like Rustem Umjerow have attended. These meetings follow earlier discussions held in Berlin with European and Ukrainian counterparts.

The US team, featuring figures like Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, and Senator Marco Rubio, has proposed trilateral meetings involving national security advisors from all three nations. Trump has emphasised that there is no fixed deadline for reaching an agreement, though his stated goal remains to 'end the war'. Officials from both sides have acknowledged the complexity of the talks but noted progress in certain areas.

The negotiations continue without a set timeline, focusing on long-standing disputes over territory and security. US mediators remain central to the process, relaying proposals between Russian and Ukrainian representatives. The outcome will depend on whether the involved parties can bridge their differences in the coming months.
