US slashes Swiss import tariffs to 15% in landmark trade deal

The United States has cut its blanket tariffs on Swiss imports from 39% to a maximum of 15%. The change took effect on November 14, following negotiations between the two countries. Swiss officials confirmed the decision in a media briefing held in Bern last week.

The tariff reduction covers most Swiss goods entering the US stock market. However, some products remain exempt, including pharmaceuticals, certain chemicals, gold, and coffee. These exceptions were outlined in the revised trade agreement.

The revised tariffs mark a shift in trade relations between Switzerland and the US. Most Swiss exports now face lower duties on the stock market today, though key sectors remain unaffected. Meanwhile, selected American goods will enter the Swiss market under reduced tariff conditions.
