Uttarakhand cancels 48 fake domicile certificates in Haldwani fraud crackdown
Uttarakhand authorities have cancelled 48 fake domicile certificates in Haldwani after uncovering a large-scale fraud. The crackdown began following a high-profile complaint and a directive from Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to review all such documents issued in the past three years.
The investigation started after a recent report highlighted widespread residency certificate fraud. Officials first examined records from the Haldwani tehsil, focusing on certificates issued over the last five years. A raid on a Common Service Centre (CSC) exposed a network producing fake documents, leading to a case against the alleged writer and a beneficiary.
The cancellation of 48 bogus certificates marks the first watch of the statewide review. Authorities have registered cases against those involved in producing and benefiting from fake documents. The ongoing verification process will determine whether further cancellations are necessary.
