Uzbekistan's Driver's License Changes: No More Driving School, New Moped Category
Uzbekistan is set to introduce significant changes to its driver's license system. From February 1, 2026, mandatory driving school attendance will no longer be required for car and motorcycle license applicants. Additionally, a new license category for mopeds and scooters will be introduced.
The reforms aim to make obtaining a driver’s license more affordable and accessible. Applicants will still need to pass exams, but they can now prepare independently. However, hands-on driving practice remains compulsory to ensure road safety.
Starting April 1, 2026, traffic violations caught on surveillance cameras will result in penalty points. This measure aims to deter reckless driving and improve road safety.
These changes, effective from early 2026, are expected to reduce the cost and improve accessibility of driver education in Uzbekistan. The new license category for mopeds and scooters will also provide more options for inexperienced riders.
