Valour Canada Expands Sessions Amid Teachers' Strike, Field of Crosses Memorial Preparations Underway
Valour Canada, a non-profit dedicated to educating youth about Canada's military history, has expanded its daytime sessions to accommodate various community youth groups. Despite a teachers' strike, preparations for the annual Field of Crosses memorial are underway, with hundreds of volunteers setting up along Memorial Drive. The event, in its 16th year, aims to honor Southern Alberta's fallen service members.
Originally scheduled for 2,000 students from Calgary schools to participate in the 'Classroom at the Crosses' program, the event was put on hold due to the ongoing teachers' strike. However, Valour Canada has offered flexible rescheduling for the event once the strike ends. In the meantime, anyone interested can meet with educators at the Calgary Curling Club from Monday to Friday, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
John Q. Adams, president of Valour Canada, understands the challenges facing Alberta's teachers. He reassured the community that the organization continues its mission to educate youth about Canada's military heritage. Online opportunities are also available for those unable to visit in person.
The Field of Crosses memorial, set to honor men and women from Southern Alberta who died while serving in the Canadian armed forces, remains a significant event for the community. Despite the temporary halt, Valour Canada is committed to ensuring the event goes ahead once the teachers' strike concludes, providing a meaningful learning experience for students.
