Vay Revolutionizes Ride-Hailing with Remote-Driving EVs

German company Vay is revolutionising ride-hailing with its remote-driving electric vehicle service. Users can request a Rivian to be delivered to their location, then remotely driven back to base after use. Vay's service is half the price of traditional options and has already completed over 17,000 trips in the US since January 2024.

Vay's innovative model allows users to summon an electric vehicle (EV) to their location. After the trip, a remote driver takes over and returns the vehicle to base. This not only reduces costs but also increases vehicle utilisation. Vay has secured a production facility in Las Vegas for building and maintaining its electric fleet, aiming to have 100 vehicles on US roads by the end of 2024.

The company sees potential in various applications for its remote-driving technology. Apart from ride-hailing, Vay is exploring possibilities in freight transport. Although Vay has not yet announced specific European cities for expansion, the new 'StVFernLV' law in Germany provides a legal framework for remote-driving services, paving the way for Vay's European entry.

Vay's remote-driving electric vehicle service offers a cheaper, more efficient alternative to traditional ride-hailing. With over 17,000 trips completed in the US and plans to expand its fleet to 100 vehicles by the end of 2024, Vay is poised for growth. The company's innovative technology and potential applications in freight transport promise an exciting future in mobility.
