Velbert hosts free public session on future municipal heat planning
A public information session on municipal heat planning will be held in Velbert on Thursday, February 26. The event is free to attend and open to homeowners, tenants, businesses, and anyone interested in the topic. Organisers aim to clarify how local heat planning will work and what it means for residents.
The session will start at 6 p.m. in the Skyroom of the IMS-Arena on Bahnhofstraße 116. No registration is needed, and attendees can arrive without prior booking.
The event is a joint effort by the city of Velbert, BMU Energy Consulting, and North Rhine-Westphalia's Consumer Advice Center. After a presentation on the basics of municipal heat planning, the floor will open for questions and discussion. Across North Rhine-Westphalia, cities like Münster are still developing their heat transition plans. These aim to phase out gas and oil heating by 2045, replacing them with district heating and heat pumps. However, concrete data on energy savings or CO₂ reductions from these early-stage plans has yet to be published.
The session offers residents a chance to learn about upcoming changes to heating systems in Velbert. With no cost or registration required, organisers hope for broad participation. The discussion will focus on practical steps and long-term goals for the city's heat supply.
