Venezuela flexes military muscle in massive drills amid U.S. tensions
Venezuela has demonstrated its military prowess with massive exercises involving 200,000 troops. This display comes amidst rising tensions with the U.S., which has bolstered its military presence in the Caribbean. The Venezuelan government, led by President Nicolás Maduro, organized these drills, dubbed 'Plan Independencia 200', on November 12, 2025.
The U.S. has sent warships, including the USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier, and combat aircraft to Venezuelan waters. U.S. officials assert that Venezuelan vessels are transporting drugs, with over 70 fatalities in related operations. However, no concrete evidence supports these claims.
Neighbouring countries, Colombia and Brazil, are increasingly worried about potential conflict in the region. Venezuela's government, however, rejects U.S. allegations, insisting the real aim is to intimidate the country.
Tensions between Venezuela and the U.S. remain high, with both sides taking firm stances. While the U.S. accuses Venezuela of drug trafficking, Venezuela denies these claims and sees the U.S. actions as a threat. Regional powers, like Colombia and Brazil, express concern about the escalating situation.
