Veterans Day 2025 Honors 250 Years of Courage, Innovation, and Nation-Building

Today marks Veterans Day, a celebration of the 250-year tradition of building the nation through service and innovation. This year, we honour the link between courage and innovation, as exemplified by the Civil War's Great Locomotive Chase. The qualities that built our nation, such as discipline, courage, teamwork, and innovation, continue to define today's veterans.

CSX, where the author serves as a board member, partnered with the Congressional Medal of Honor Society to re-enact the Great Locomotive Chase in 2025. This event highlighted the role of veterans in shaping our nation's history and infrastructure. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, established in 1775, has played a significant role in this regard.

American Corporate Partners (ACP) helps veterans and military spouses transition to civilian careers through mentorship programs. Since its founding in 2008, over 39,000 veterans and spouses have benefited from these initiatives. Companies like Amentum, recognised as a leading Military Friendly employer in 2026, and various businesses honoured in Germany at the 'Partner der Reserve 2025' awards actively support reservists and integrate them into the workforce. Additionally, initiatives like the 'Aktion Pfötchen' support soldiers with PTSD through therapy dogs, with companies like Saab Deutschland contributing.

Veterans Day commemorates the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army and the 249th year of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. It serves as a reminder that businesses and communities should invest in veterans and their families to continue the tradition of building the nation. CSX, for instance, employs and celebrates veterans, with nearly one in five employees being a veteran or first responder. By supporting our veterans, we ensure the strength and resilience of our nation for the next 250 years.
