Vice President reaffirms government support for creative industry
Ghana’s Vice President, H.E. Nana Jane Opoku Agyemang, recently visited the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts as part of an ongoing initiative to engage with government departments. The trip aimed to assess operational needs and reinforce the government’s pledge to boost national development through key sectors.
During the meeting, officials discussed ways to strengthen Ghana’s position in African and global tourism markets while addressing current challenges.
The Vice President’s visit follows earlier engagements with the Ministries of Health, Education, and Gender, Children and Social Protection. This phase of the programme focuses specifically on ministries led by women, including Tourism, Trade, and Fisheries.
H.E. Opoku Agyemang assured ministry officials that steps were being taken to resolve operational hurdles. She stressed the need to research, package, and promote Ghana’s cultural heritage, tourism sites, cuisine, and natural landscapes more effectively. The Vice President also urged agencies to prioritise national revenue growth over internal budget disputes.
Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, highlighted the creative industry’s role in job creation and youth empowerment. She shared her own career journey, emphasising the value of mentorship and continuous support in nurturing talent. The discussions concluded with a call for stronger collaboration between government bodies to unlock Ghana’s tourism and creative potential.
The Vice President’s visits form part of a broader effort to understand ministry operations and identify areas requiring additional support. While specific details on upcoming engagements remain unreported, the programme continues to target women-led ministries across the country.
The meeting reinforced the government’s commitment to fostering economic growth through tourism and creative sectors. Officials agreed on the need for coordinated action to maximise Ghana’s cultural and natural assets. Further updates on the Vice President’s engagements with other ministries are expected in due course.
