Vientiane's Book Festival Celebrates Vietnam-Laos Cultural Ties Through Literature
The sixth International Book and Culture Festival has opened in Vientiane with a focus on strengthening ties between Vietnam and Laos. Nearly 200 bilingual Lao-Vietnamese titles are on display, covering history, politics, and education. The event highlights the theme Books connect cultures to promote reading and cultural exchange.
The festival features 75 booths from 59 organisations, including the Vietnamese Embassy in Laos and the Việt Nam Education Publishing House. Educational groups from China, the UK, France, Canada, and Australia are also taking part. Organisers expect over 20,000 visitors during the event.
Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyễn Minh Tâm joined the Director of the Lao National Publishing and Book Distribution House to present commemorative books to guests. These gifts symbolise the close cooperation between the two countries' publishing sectors. The displayed books explore the lives of President Hồ Chí Minh and President Kaysone Phomvihane, along with topics like socio-economic development, science, and Vietnamese-language learning. Vietnam's involvement aims to deepen friendship and solidarity with Laos through shared cultural values.
The festival runs under the theme of cultural connection through literature. Its bilingual collection and wide participation reflect the growing partnership between Vietnam and Laos. The event also provides a platform for international educational and publishing groups to engage with local audiences.
