Viersen Fire Department honored for unwavering community dedication
Local leaders gathered to honour the Viersen Fire Department at its annual general assembly. Frank Kersbaum, head of the service, highlighted the dedication of its members and the growing challenges they face. Mayor Christoph Hopp also praised the brigade's work, calling it a model of community spirit in action.
Speaking at the event, Kersbaum described the fire service as far more than just an organisation or its equipment. He stressed it was a living community where every member served with reliability, professionalism, and personal commitment throughout 2025. The demands on firefighters, he noted, continue to rise, requiring careful and sustainable use of resources.
Kersbaum underlined the importance of maintaining public trust by staying focused on core duties. Precision, legal certainty, and long-term planning, he said, would be key to meeting future challenges.
Mayor Hopp echoed these sentiments, describing the fire service as 'solidarity in action.' He praised the youth fire brigade in particular, hoping their example would encourage more young people to join. Meanwhile, Simon Fritsch, the county fire chief, highlighted the strong cooperation between departments across the district. He called the service a network of dedicated individuals working beyond local boundaries.
The assembly reinforced the fire service's role as a cornerstone of the community. Leaders emphasised the need for continued teamwork, strategic planning, and public support. With increasing demands ahead, the brigade's commitment remains central to its success.
