Vietnam and Cambodia pledge stronger cross-border trade and security ties
Vietnam and Cambodia have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties between their border provinces. The 13th Conference on Cooperation and Development took place in Phnom Penh on November 27-28, co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Bùi Thanh Sơn and his Cambodian counterpart, Sar Sokha. Leaders from nine ministries, 10 cities and provinces, and three military regions attended the event to discuss future collaboration.
The conference highlighted the positive relations and effective cooperation between the border provinces in recent years. Both sides noted progress in areas such as national defence, security, public order, and cross-border trade. Two-way trade has averaged US$10 billion annually over the past four years, with a 13.5 per cent increase in the first ten months of 2025, reaching $9.5 billion.
The conference concluded with a shared commitment to deeper cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia’s border regions. The next meeting will take place in Vietnam in 2026, continuing the annual tradition of reviewing and strengthening cross-border partnerships. Trade, security, and infrastructure remain key priorities for both nations.
