Vietnam and Mexico strengthen ties ahead of 2026 elections

Vietnam is gearing up for elections to its National Assembly and People's Councils for the 2026–2031 term. Around 550 deputies will join the National Assembly, while roughly 20,000 will serve at provincial, district, and commune levels. Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts with Mexico have taken a step forward with a new cooperation agenda.

A delegation from the Vietnamese Embassy in Mexico, led by Ambassador Hải, recently met with the Mexico-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group. Together, they signed an activity agenda focused on boosting parliamentary diplomacy and bilateral ties. The plan includes expanding delegation visits, improving legislative collaboration, and advancing joint projects in politics, trade, education, and healthcare.

Both sides also agreed to strengthen business links and organise economic forums. These events aim to unlock further cooperation in trade, investment, science, and technology. Ana Karina Rojo Pimentel, head of the Mexican Chamber of Deputies' Welfare Committee, confirmed the group's dedication to executing the agreed initiatives. A visit by Mexican parliamentarians to Vietnam is proposed once the new National Assembly begins its term. This trip would build on the agenda's goals of deepening political and economic exchanges.

The signed agenda sets clear steps for closer Vietnam-Mexico relations. It outlines practical measures in diplomacy, trade, and cultural exchanges. Implementation will depend on the upcoming National Assembly's operations and continued engagement from both sides.
