Vietnam and Russia strengthen defence ties in high-level Hanoi talks

Vietnam’s Minister of National Defence, General Phan Văn Giang, met with Russia’s Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu in Hanoi this week. The talks focused on deepening defence ties between the two nations, including training, scientific research, and regional security cooperation.

During the meeting, both sides highlighted the long-standing and reliable defence partnership between Vietnam and Russia. General Giang thanked Shoigu for Russia’s support in erecting a monument in Moscow dedicated to Vietnamese volunteer soldiers. In return, Shoigu expressed gratitude for Vietnam’s participation in Russia’s Victory Day parade, emphasising hopes for continued collaboration.

The meeting reinforced the Vietnam-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership in defence. Both nations agreed to maintain close coordination in areas such as military teams and scientific research.
