Vietnam, Cambodia Pledge to Strengthen Defence Ties at Eighth Dialogue

Vietnam and Cambodia have pledged to strengthen their defence ties, as evidenced by the eighth Vietnam-Cambodia Defence Policy Dialogue. The meeting, held in Ho Chi Minh City in July 2025, saw both sides agreeing to deepen cooperation and exchange views on regional and global issues.

The dialogue, aimed at implementing the outcomes of a February 2025 meeting between the Communist Party of Vietnam's Politburo and the Cambodian People's Party Central Committee, resulted in a Memorandum of Understanding on military and defence law cooperation. Both sides also signed minutes of the dialogue.

Key areas of cooperation include enhancing delegation exchanges, improving existing cooperation mechanisms, and maintaining effective training of human resources. They also agreed to collaborate on border management and protection, mutual assistance, and defence-economic cooperation. Additionally, they committed to increasing coordination in communications and education for military personnel on the history and significance of their friendly relations.

The eighth Vietnam-Cambodia Defence Policy Dialogue has reinforced the commitment of both nations to strengthen their trusted, comprehensive, and substantive defence cooperation. Despite no specific participants or agreements being mentioned, the dialogue has set a clear path for future collaboration, ensuring the traditional friendship and good neighbourliness between Vietnam and Cambodia continue to flourish.
