Vietnam Concludes UNHRC Tenure with Strong Human Rights Stance

Vietnam concluded its tenure at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) with a strong presence at the recent 60th session in Geneva. The Vietnamese delegation actively participated, engaging in discussions on key issues and affirming Vietnam's commitment to human rights promotion and protection.

Throughout the session, Vietnam chaired the drafting and delivery of a joint statement promoting the human right to vaccination, co-sponsored by 51 countries. This marked a significant contribution to global health rights discussions.

The delegation also highlighted Vietnam's commitment to human rights, stressing the importance of bridging political divisions and fostering cooperation through dialogue. Ambassador Mai Phan Dung, leading the delegation, condemned Israel's attack on Qatar and called for restraint and peaceful resolution.

Vietnam, alongside other ASEAN countries, made joint statements on shared regional concerns, including technical cooperation and the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) mechanism. The delegation actively contributed to the UNHRC's activities, demonstrating Vietnam's consistent policy on human rights promotion and protection.

Successfully completing its 2023-2025 tenure, Vietnam has laid a solid foundation for its re-election to the UNHRC in the 2026-2028 tenure. Its active and responsible presence at the UNHRC session has affirmed its proactive role in global human rights issues, particularly in areas such as youth rights, climate change, access to clean water, and the rights of older persons.
