Vietnam holds national election as General Secretary Tô Lâm casts his vote
Vietnam's General Secretary Tô Lâm voted in Hà Nội on 15 March as the country held its latest national election. Speaking at polling station No. 2 in Ba Đình Ward, he thanked media agencies for their role in covering the process. The election follows key decisions made during the 14th National Party Congress, which set out major policies for future development.
Lâm expressed satisfaction after casting his ballot, highlighting the high voter turnout. He described the election as a demonstration of the people's freedom and right to choose capable representatives for national and local leadership.
The government had prepared extensively for the vote, aiming to ensure voters could express their views freely. Measures included expanding voter registration systems, increasing the use of technology in electoral processes, and training election officials. Public campaigns also encouraged greater citizen participation. Authorities emphasised that the election's purpose was to select trusted leaders who would drive rapid, sustainable, and stable national development. Improving living standards for the population remains a central priority.
The election process was designed to reflect the will of the people within Vietnam's one-party system. While independent observers have noted constraints on political competition, the government has focused on modernising procedures and encouraging voter engagement. The results will shape leadership for the coming term.
