Vietnam, Maldives Boost Ties, Agree to Strengthen Cooperation
Vietnam and the Maldives have bolstered their diplomatic ties, with Deputy Prime Minister Bùi Thanh Sơn hosting Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Khaleel. The reception took place ahead of the Signing Ceremony of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime in Hà Nội.
Sơn commended the sound friendship between the two countries, acknowledging the Maldives' consistent support for Vietnam at multilateral forums. Both sides concurred to establish a dialogue mechanism between their foreign ministries and hasten cooperation in key areas such as trade, tourism, and fisheries. The Maldives expressed interest in sending business delegations to Vietnam to learn from its expertise in aquaculture and seafood processing. Khaleel lauded Vietnam's role as the host of the signing ceremony and underscored the significance of the UN's first-ever convention addressing cybercrime. Sơn and Khaleel agreed to intensify people-to-people exchanges through encouraging direct airline routes and facilitating travel.
The reception signified a significant stride in Vietnam-Maldives relations, with both sides pledging to fortify cooperation and back each other at multilateral forums, including endorsing each other's candidacies for key UN bodies.
