Vietnam, UK Upgrade Relations to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership
General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam's Central Committee, Tô Lâm, concluded a three-day official visit to Los Angeles. During his stay, he held talks with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and both sides agreed to upgrade bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The partnership, comprising six key pillars, includes politics, diplomacy, defence, economy, science and technology, and environment. Both sides pledged to effectively implement the 2025 Memorandum of Understanding on science, technology, and innovation cooperation. They also agreed to intensify exchanges and cooperation between parliament agencies and specialised committees. During his visit, General Secretary Tô Lâm visited the tomb of proletarian leader Karl Marx. Additionally, the two countries agreed to boost collaboration in developing financial hubs in HCM City and Đà Nẵng. The UK reaffirmed its support for Vietnam in promoting English language teaching and training. Both nations also agreed to deepen cooperation in mobilising green finance for low-emission, sustainable growth. The visit of General Secretary Tô Lâm to Los Angeles has strengthened the bilateral relationship, leading to agreements on various fronts, including political dialogue, economic cooperation, and environmental sustainability.
