Vietnam's election achieves historic 99.64% voter turnout nationwide
Vietnam's 16th National Assembly election saw exceptionally high voter participation across the country. By 10pm on Sunday, nationwide turnout reached 99.64%, with millions casting their ballots in an orderly process. Lào Cai Province led the way, completing voting by 5.45pm with a 100% turnout. The region also reported 173 voters aged 100 or older, including a 114-year-old participant. Huế followed suit, also recording full attendance at the polls.
By 8pm, over 76.04 million people had voted, accounting for 99.38% of the electorate. Most localities exceeded 99% turnout, with Hà Tĩnh Province at 99.99% and Lai Châu Province at 99.97%. Even provinces with large electorates maintained rates above 99%. Polling stations operated smoothly, adhering strictly to election rules. Domestic media published 6,402 articles and reports by 7pm, reflecting widespread public and international interest. However, specific figures on deputies elected by centenarian voters in the first two provinces to finish were not disclosed.
The election concluded with near-universal participation, demonstrating strong civic engagement. Final results will confirm the composition of the 16th National Assembly, with turnout data already highlighting broad public involvement.
