Violent café robbery in Cologne ends with suspect's arrest after assault
A 19-year-old man has been arrested after a violent robbery in a Cologne café. The incident began when a customer dropped a €10 note on Immermannstraße. Police later detained the suspect, who resisted arrest and spat at officers.
The trouble started inside a café on Immermannstraße. A man accidentally dropped a €10 note, and an unknown 19-year-old grabbed it before fleeing. The victim immediately chased after him and confronted the suspect outside.
During the confrontation, the 19-year-old struck the victim in the face with a crossbody bag, causing injury. Police arrived quickly and apprehended the suspect nearby. He reacted aggressively, resisting arrest and spitting at officers. Authorities confirmed the suspect is known for previous property and violent offences. He is also residing in Germany illegally. Due to his erratic behaviour, officers took a blood sample to test for suspected drug use.
The suspect remains in custody following the violent incident. Police have not reported any similar cases in Cologne over the past year. The victim's injuries are being assessed, while investigations into the robbery continue.
