Violent clashes disrupt Berlin football and boxing events in one weekend
Berlin (dpa/bb) – A brawl broke out between fans and players of two football teams in Berlin-Hellersdorf following a local league match on Sunday afternoon, leaving three people slightly injured, police announced on the platform X.
Authorities reported that numerous individuals clashed after the game between Eintracht Mahlsdorf and Hellersdorfer FC, which ended in a 6-0 defeat for the home side. According to a report by the B.Z. newspaper, up to 20 people became violent. One man allegedly grabbed a fire extinguisher and sprayed it toward the Hellersdorfer team's dugout.
A large contingent of police officers and emergency responders were deployed to the scene. Investigators are now probing potential charges including breach of the peace, assault, threats, and insults. They are working to determine the cause of the altercation and identify all those involved in the fight.
Large-Scale Police Operation After Boxing Match Just a day earlier, on Saturday, fire and police units had been called to a violent confrontation following a boxing match in Prenzlauer Berg. Witnesses reported that members of a well-known Arab-origin extended family stormed the ring after a relative lost the fight. Police said irritant gas was sprayed during the brawl, and furniture was allegedly thrown. Six adults, one teenager, and two children later reported eye irritation.
