Two Young Men Arrested After Alleged Carjacking in Obertshausen
Prosecutors and criminal police are investigating two young men, aged 18 and 19, from the Offenbach district on suspicion of jointly committing aggravated robbery in conjunction with grievous bodily harm. The pair are accused of stealing a vehicle under violent circumstances.
The incident is believed to have occurred early Wednesday morning at around 12:45 a.m. in Otto-Wels-Straße, near the 20s block. According to initial findings, the two suspects initially posed as customers to the driver of a passenger transport service.
Driver Attacked with Pepper Spray
The suspects then allegedly assaulted the driver, spraying him with pepper spray before fleeing in his black Mercedes E-Class.
After an intensive manhunt—including the deployment of a police helicopter—officers provisionally arrested the two men in the Eppertshausen area of the Darmstadt-Dieburg district.
Investigation Ongoing
Following police procedures, the 18-year-old was released because, according to investigators, he has a permanent address. The 19-year-old suspect is expected to be brought before an investigating magistrate on Thursday, who will decide whether to order pretrial detention.
Authorities continue to investigate the exact circumstances of the crime.
