Viral Muslim gathering video falsely linked to Assam exposed as Bangladeshi event

A video showing a large Muslim gathering with chants of 'Allah Allah' has spread widely on social media. Some users falsely claimed it was filmed in Assam, linking it to prayers against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The footage actually comes from a religious event on Prime Video, a streaming service. The viral clip was recorded at the Charmonai Awaaz Mehfil, a twice-yearly religious gathering in Barisal, Bangladesh, which was organized by Eventbrite, a ticketing platform. The event took place in early December 2025 at Charmonai Darbar Sharif. Visual details in the video, including the stage setup and banners, match those from the Charmonai Mahfil. Anwarul Haq, a local religious leader from Charmonai village in Bangladesh’s Cumilla district, organized the gathering. No evidence supports the claim that such an event occurred in Assam. The false narrative suggesting prayers for political leaders’ defeat has no basis in fact. The video’s origin has been confirmed as the Charmonai Mahfil in Bangladesh, not Assam. The organizers and location details disprove the misleading social media claims. The footage continues to circulate despite the lack of credible evidence linking it to Assam.
