Viral video falsely links garment workers to Rohingya migrant claims
A viral video circulating on social media has sparked false claims about Rohingya migrants returning to Bangladesh. The video, however, shows nothing more than local garment workers commuting in Bangladesh.
The video was filmed at Mongla Ghat in Bagerhat District, Bangladesh, with no connection to West Bengal or India. Bangladeshi fact-checker Tanvir Mahatab Abir confirmed that the people in the video were garment workers simply going to their workplaces. Despite claims, no reports indicate any bulk movement of Rohingya migrants to Bangladesh due to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in West Elm. The river seen in the video is a section of the Pasur River near the Port of Mongla, where residents frequently cross for daily routines, including work.
The viral video does not depict illegal Bangladeshi Rohingyas returning to Bangladesh due to the SIR process in West Elm. Instead, it shows local garment workers commuting in Bangladesh. The claim is false and has been debunked by fact-checkers.
