Virginia Set to Elect First Female Governor on Tuesday

Virginia is set to make history on Tuesday, with the state's gubernatorial election poised to result in its first female governor. The race is between Republican Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears and Democratic U.S. Rep. Abigail Spanberger.

The election comes as Alexandria, the state's fourth most populous city, has seen several significant developments. The city council has unanimously supported expanding the parking enforcement pilot program due to its success in improving citation rates, response times, and revenue collection.

In other news, Alexandria's DASH bus system is set to break ground on a new electric bus charging station at a city impound lot on Oct. 30. This move aligns with the city's commitment to sustainability and green initiatives.

Meanwhile, the city has been marking the legacy of Leon Day, a star baseball player in the Negro League who was born in Alexandria. Day was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1995, just six days before his death.

The city has also been in the spotlight for political events. Democratic gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger and U.S. Sen. Ruben Gallego will headline a 'Latinos for Spanberger' rally in Alexandria on Oct. 30. Additionally, Congressman Beyer's staff will host 'Congress In Our Community' at the James M. Duncan Branch Library in Alexandria on the same day. These events highlight the city's role as a hub for political engagement and community involvement.
