Vladivostok Couple Faces Trial for Staging 27 Fake Car Crashes
A Vladivostok couple now faces trial for a large-scale insurance fraud scheme. Authorities allege they staged 27 fake traffic accidents over three years. The scam reportedly cost insurance firms more than 5 million rubles in false claims.
The Primorsky Territory Prosecutor's Office has formally approved an indictment against the pair. Investigators claim the couple deliberately caused collisions between 2021 and 2024 to defraud insurers. Their assets have since been frozen as part of the ongoing criminal case.
Three insurance companies have filed separate civil lawsuits to recover the lost funds. The defendants will stand trial in Vladivostok's Pervorechensky District Court. No further details have emerged about other individuals linked to similar fraud cases in the region.
The trial will determine whether the couple is guilty of orchestrating the long-running fraud. If convicted, they may face financial penalties alongside potential imprisonment. The outcome could also set a precedent for how future insurance fraud cases are handled in the region.
