Vladivostok duo charged with $98K fraud in elaborate extortion scheme
Two residents of Vladivostok face fraud and extortion charges after allegedly stealing over 9 million rubles (around $98,000). The case involves a series of threats and false promises made to a single victim over several months. Authorities have now completed their investigation into the matter.
The scheme began in July 2024, when the accused tricked a man into paying 1.7 million rubles (about $18,500). They claimed the money would secure the delivery of a car from Japan. The victim later received full compensation for this loss.
The case will now proceed through the legal system. The victim has already recovered the initial sum lost in the fraud. If convicted, the defendants could face significant penalties under Russian law.
