Voronezh deputy mayor sparks outrage by calling residents ‘toxic and ungrateful’

A recent business forum in Voronezh turned controversial after Deputy Mayor Lyudmila Borodina criticized local residents. She labeled them as 'toxic and ungrateful' for their complaints about the city's urban improvements. Her remarks quickly sparked public backlash and prompted a strong response from Mayor Sergei Petrin.

Borodina made the comments during a public discussion on urban development. She argued that Voronezh was just as clean as major cities like Moscow and St. Petersburg, despite their far larger budgets. The deputy mayor also compared the city's utility services favorably to those in Nizhny Novgorod.

She went on to express frustration over residents' lack of gratitude. Borodina claimed that negative feedback undermined the city's reputation and urged attendees to share positive impressions of other cities instead.

Mayor Sergei Petrin later addressed the controversy. He admitted that negative comments on social media often upset him but acknowledged they were frequently justified. Petrin made it clear that such statements from officials would no longer be tolerated. He also stressed the importance of solving problems rather than criticizing citizens, calling comparisons to other cities unacceptable.

The incident has highlighted tensions between local authorities and residents over urban management. Petrin's response signals a shift in how the city government will handle public criticism moving forward. Officials are now expected to focus on addressing concerns rather than dismissing them.
