Vote Now: Lower Saxony's Bird of the Year 2025
Voting for Bird of the Year 2025 is underway in Lower Saxony, with the public having until October 9 at 11 am to make their choice. The election, a joint initiative of NABU and LBV, features five different bird species, each advocating for habitat protection in their own way.
The Bird-O-Mat, an online tool, is available to help voters decide. Among the candidates is the Amsel, a stable species that advocates for more natural habitats. Another candidate, the Zwergtaucher, thrives in quiet waters and is currently maintaining a stable population. The Waldohreule, a stable species itself, needs diverse landscapes to flourish.
Last year's winner, the Kiebitz, has been succeeded by the Hausrotschwanz as the Bird of the Year 2025. This annual election, running since 1971, serves as a call for habitat protection for numerous species. The NABU homepage offers an overview of previous winners for those interested in learning more about the initiative's history.
With the election set to close on October 9, voters are encouraged to cast their ballots and help raise awareness for these important conservation efforts. The winner will join a long list of birds that have been recognized for their ecological significance and the need for their habitats to be protected.
