Wald's urban projects risk losing millions by 2031 as delays persist
Funding for Wald's urban development projects is at risk of going unused by 2031. The district council has pledged to speed up progress after years of delays. Concerns have grown over staffing cuts and slow implementation of the Integrated Urban Development Concept (ISEK). Originally, 25 projects were planned under Wald's ISEK between 2015 and 2022. Four of these had secured long-term funding but made little headway. Now, with the programme set to end in 2031, SG zukunft warns that funds could be wasted if action isn't taken soon. The group has criticised plans to reduce ISEK staffing from a full-time role to a 'three-quarter position'. Matthias Urban, SG zukunft's representative on the council, called the move shocking. He stressed that consistent funding and personnel are needed to push projects forward. Jan Höttges, another SG zukunft member, clarified that the group's concerns were about how new roles were assigned, not the number of staff. A proposed 'quarter-time position' for the Fronhof complex expansion has yet to win city council approval. In response, the Wald district council promised closer oversight of ISEK projects. SG zukunft insists that reallocating staff now would only slow progress further. The district council must now ensure that funding is fully used before the 2031 deadline. With staffing changes under debate, the pace of project delivery remains uncertain. The focus is on preventing unused funds and completing long-delayed initiatives.
