West Orange and Millburn elections reshape local political power

Tammy Williams has secured an at-large seat on the West Orange Township Council after a special election, defeating Justin Goldsman. Meanwhile, in Millburn, Republicans are set to gain a majority on the Township Committee, with Jamie Serruto leading the pack. Voters also approved a charter study commission and backed Mikie Sherrill for governor.

In West Orange, Tammy Williams emerged victorious in the special election for an at-large council seat, defeating Justin Goldsman. This marks a significant change in the local electoral votes landscape.

In Millburn, the Republican Party is poised to secure a majority on the Township Committee. Jamie Serruto, a former school board member, is leading with 3,684 votes, followed by Kris Heinrichs with 3,551 votes. Annette Romano, the Democratic municipal chair, trails in fourth place with 3,461 votes, just 34 votes behind her running mate. If the current trends hold, Serruto will join Republicans Frank Saccomandi and Ben Stoller, elected in 2023, to form a Republican majority.

Voters in Millburn have also approved a charter study commission referendum by a 65% majority. Joanna Parker-Lentz, Christopher Drucker, Jerry Kung, Corey Biller, and Shaunak Tanna won seats on this commission. Deputy Mayor Michael Cohen is currently trailing in the race for Township Committee, 57 votes behind Heinrichs with 3,494 votes.

Tammy Williams' victory in West Orange signals a shift in local politics, while Millburn's upcoming Republican majority on the Township Committee indicates a change in the town's political dynamics. The charter study commission's approval and Mikie Sherrill's strong support in Millburn further highlight the voters' engagement and preferences in the recent electoral votes.
