Wettingen to Build Temporary Asylum Facility for 100-120 Seekers
Wettingen is set to build temporary accommodation for 100 to 120 asylum seekers on the southern part of the circus grounds. The canton of Aargau will operate the facility, which is urgently needed due to the current asylum crisis.
The municipality has approved the project management, with construction costs estimated at 3,520,000 francs. The canton will contribute 1,656,000 francs over five years, leaving the municipality with costs of 1,864,000 francs. The facility is expected to last five years, providing much-needed relief to the overcrowded asylum system in Aargau, which currently accommodates 9,676 persons.
The project, named 'Schullandschaft Margeläcker', will not be affected by the temporary buildings. Residents of the circus grounds have been informed, and a public inspection will be arranged before the opening. The facility is scheduled to be inaugurated on October 1, 2026, following the municipal council's approval of the credit request on November 13, 2025.
Wettingen's temporary accommodation project management is a response to the urgent need for more asylum spaces in Aargau. The municipality and canton are collaborating to provide a solution, with the facility set to open in late 2026.
