WGA Assembles 2026 Negotiation Team as Hollywood Contract Talks Loom

The Writers Guild of America (WGA) has formed a committee, headed by co-chairs John August and Danielle Sanchez-Witzel, to commence negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) in 2026. The committee, consisting of 23 members from both the East and West divisions of the WGA, is set to begin talks in early 2026, with preliminary discussions already underway.

Ellen Stutzman, who led the WGA negotiations in 2023, will reprise her role in 2026. Meanwhile, the AMPTP will have a new chief negotiator, Greg Hessinger, who succeeded Carol Lombardini. The WGA leadership, including presidents and vice presidents from both divisions, will also play a significant part in the negotiations. The current contract is set to expire on May 1, 2026.

As of now, the identity of the new AMPTP chief negotiator who will face off against Stutzman in 2026 remains unconfirmed. Both sides have been engaged in back-channel communications to convey their priorities ahead of the formal negotiations.

The WGA and AMPTP are preparing for their 2026 contract talks, with a committee led by John August and Danielle Sanchez-Witzel representing the WGA. Ellen Stutzman will once again serve as the WGA's chief negotiator, while the AMPTP will be led by new chief negotiator Greg Hessinger. The negotiations are expected to begin in the first few months of 2026, following the expiration of the current contract on May 1, 2026.
