White House Posts Patriotic Trump Video Set to Taylor Swift's 'Ophelia'
The White House's TikTok account recently posted a patriotic video featuring former President Donald Trump, set to Taylor Swift's song 'The Fate of Ophelia'. This move comes amidst a history of public criticism between Trump and Swift, including Trump's recent comments on Truth Social. Swift, meanwhile, has endorsed Trump's political rival, Vice President Kamala Harris.
The video, which has sparked curiosity about its origins, does not reveal who had the idea to use Swift's music. The White House responded to Variety, stating it was made to be amplified by 'fake news media brands'.
Trump's public criticism of Swift began after she endorsed Harris during the 2024 presidential election. Swift had previously called out Trump for using a fake image of her to endorse him. Trump, in turn, warned that Swift's music sales would suffer due to her endorsement, but this did not materialize. In fact, Swift's music saw a surge in streams following her endorsement.
Earlier this summer, Trump took to Truth Social to express his dislike for Swift, stating 'I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT' and suggesting she was no longer 'HOT'. Swift, however, remains one of the world's top-selling artists.
The patriotic video featuring Trump and Swift's music has added another layer to their public exchange. While Trump has been critical of Swift, her music continues to thrive, and her endorsements have not affected her popularity. Representatives for Swift did not immediately respond to Variety's request for comment on the video.
