White House Speeds Up Deregulation, Agencies to Repeal 10 Rules for Every New One
The White House has issued a directive, urging federal agencies to hasten the process of deregulation. The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has released a memo outlining the steps agencies should take to comply with President Trump's executive orders on this matter.
The memo instructs agencies to repeal ten existing regulations for every new one introduced. It also mandates the withdrawal of rules deemed unlawful by recent Supreme Court rulings. To expedite this process, the White House review of rules will be accelerated, and notice and comment periods for repeals may be bypassed.
The Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) will oversee this process. It will impose a 28-day review period for 'deregulatory actions' and a maximum of 14 days for 'facially unlawful rules'. This move aims to streamline the deregulation process and reduce regulatory burdens on businesses and individuals.
The White House's directive seeks to expedite deregulation, aiming to reduce the regulatory load on businesses and individuals. Agencies are to accelerate their efforts to repeal regulations and withdraw those deemed unlawful. The OMB's memo provides clear guidelines for agencies to follow, with OIRA overseeing the process to ensure efficiency.
