Wiesbaden explores its migration history through personal stories and rare archives

An upcoming event in Wiesbaden will delve into the city’s history of migration through personal stories and historical insights. On November 28, 2025, contemporary witnesses will speak at City Hall about their experiences of moving to and settling in the region. The free public event invites attendees to register in advance via email.

The evening will focus on how temporary ‘guest work’ evolved into lasting immigration in Wiesbaden. Historian Io Josefine Geib will set the stage by explaining the broader historical context behind the personal accounts. Rarely seen photographs from the City Archives will also be on display, offering a visual record of migration’s influence on the city.

The gathering aims to deepen public understanding of migration’s role in shaping Wiesbaden. Personal testimonies, expert commentary, and archival images will highlight the transition from short-term labour to long-term settlement. Registration remains open until the event date.
