Wiggensbach's Local Election Could Reshape the Town Council on March 8
Wiggensbach residents will head to the polls on March 8 for the town's regular local election. Voting stations will remain open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The 2020 town council election saw the Independent Voters' Association (Freie Wähler) take the largest share with 36.2 percent of the vote. The CSU followed with 29.4 percent, while the Green Party secured 17.8 percent and the Young List (Junge Liste) received 16.6 percent. No by-elections, resignations, or shifts in council seats have been recorded since then.
Thomas Eigstler, representing the CSU, has served as Wiggensbach's mayor since January 16, 2011. In the 2022 mayoral election, he won decisively with 86.4 percent of the vote. His term continues as the town prepares for the upcoming council vote.
Once ballots are tallied on March 8, the outcome will be published in real time through an interactive graphic. This will allow residents to track the distribution of seats as the results come in.
The election will determine whether Wiggensbach's council composition remains unchanged or shifts for the first time since 2020. Voters will decide the future balance of power among the Freie Wähler, CSU, Green Party, and Junge Liste. The results will be made public immediately after the count concludes.
