Wild moped chase in Lichtenberg ends in violent crash with police
A dramatic chase in Lichtenberg ended in a crash yesterday afternoon. Police attempted to stop a moped rider, but the suspect fled before colliding with a patrol car. Both the rider and the vehicle sustained serious damage.
The incident began when officers tried to pull over a 44-year-old moped rider for a routine check. Instead of stopping, the man sped away, leading police on a pursuit through Lichtenberg’s streets. The chase came to an abrupt halt on Siegfriedstraße, where the moped crashed into the police car.
The rider remains in hospital while police continue their enquiries. The damaged patrol car will require repairs before returning to service. Investigators are awaiting test results to confirm the suspected drug use.
