Wildpoldsried debates shifting to an honorary mayor after heated town council meeting

A packed town council meeting took place in Wildpoldsried last night, drawing around 120 residents to the village hall. The session, led by Mayor Renate Schön (CSU), focused on a contentious vote about shifting to an honorary mayoral role. Tensions had been rising after recent disputes over the town’s leadership and election process.

Mayor Schön, who has held the position since May 1, 2020, opened the meeting. She succeeded Arno Zengerle (CSU), who had served for 24 years before retiring on April 30, 2020. The large turnout forced organizers to move the gathering from the usual council chamber to the village hall.

The meeting concluded after discussions on the town’s future governance. The outcome of the vote will determine whether Wildpoldsried continues with a full-time mayor or switches to an honorary model. Officials have yet to announce the final decision.
