Willich's FDP unveils bold reforms under young leadership to slash bureaucracy

Willich's Free Democrats (FDP) have set out a fresh policy agenda under newly re-elected chairman Hannes Zühsdorff. The 28-year-old was unanimously chosen to lead the party again, with two young deputies, Christian Koch and Max Brauckmann, joining him. Their new platform, Think Freely, aims to address local challenges with practical, low-bureaucracy solutions.

The FDP's priorities focus on cutting red tape and boosting economic growth. They also push for stronger finances, modern education policies, and better integration through opportunity. Digitalisation and transparency in local government are further key goals.

One of their recent successes was helping expand fibre-optic internet to nearly all parts of Willich. Now, they propose new ways to generate revenue, such as finding a main sponsor for the city's festival and securing more funding from KfW Bank. To improve efficiency, the party suggests an independent audit of Willich's local utility. This would identify ways to optimise operations and explore possible structural synergies. They also want to review party group allowances to demonstrate cost-effective leadership. On sustainability, the FDP advocates installing photovoltaic systems on municipal buildings. This could save the city around €800,000 annually and cut CO₂ emissions by 1,386 tons. However, no details were provided on how their renewable energy policies compare to other North Rhine-Westphalian cities over the past five years.

The FDP's new leadership team is pushing for change with a focus on youth and innovation. Their proposals include financial savings, digital upgrades, and greener energy solutions. The party now aims to turn these plans into action for Willich's future.
