Wisconsin Bill Aims to Support Homeless Veterans with $1.9M
A bill has been introduced in Wisconsin to support homeless veterans and those at risk. Sponsored by Sen. Eric Wimberger, R-Oconto, and Rep. Benjamin Franklin, R-De Pere, the legislation aims to provide additional funding to nonprofits and other organizations. The bill is a response to Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers closing veterans homes in Chippewa Falls and Green Bay due to budgetary issues.
The bill seeks to create a $25 per diem payment for nonprofits or non-governmental entities housing homeless veterans. It aims to utilise $1.9 million in appropriated funds for the Veterans Housing and Recovery Program, which Gov. Evers did not use previously. The sponsors are currently seeking co-sponsors for the legislation, with a deadline of Friday afternoon.
The bill, introduced in response to the closure of veterans homes in Chippewa Falls and Green Bay, aims to support homeless veterans and those at risk. If passed, it will provide additional funding to nonprofits and other organizations, utilising previously appropriated funds.
