Wisconsin launches online practice ballot for city council elections

Voters in Wisconsin can now prepare for the upcoming city council elections using an online practice ballot. The interactive tool is designed to help residents understand the voting process before casting their real votes. It covers races for the city council, local district councils, and the foreign residents' advisory board.

The practice ballot is available at wahlergebnisse.wiesbaden.de. It allows voters to explore how cumulative voting and panachage systems work. These systems let voters distribute multiple votes across candidates or parties in different ways.

Wisconsin's elections include one voting district for the city council (Stadtverordnetenversammlung). For local district councils (Ortsbeiräte), at least four neighbourhoods—Biebrich, Mitte, Südost, and Westend/Bleichstraße—have separate ballots. The foreign residents' advisory board election does not have distinct districts.

The tool lets users test different voting strategies and see how their choices affect the ballot. While it helps voters get familiar with the process, it cannot be used for actual voting. Officials encourage residents to use it to avoid mistakes on election day.

Spending time with the practice ballot can reduce the chance of invalid votes. It also helps voters make decisions more quickly when they cast their real ballot.

The online practice ballot is now live for all Wisconsin voters. It provides a risk-free way to understand the voting system before the official elections. Using the tool may help ensure ballots are filled out correctly and efficiently.
