Wolfenbüttel's Stadtmarkt 15 Renovation Faces Delays and Surprises
Renovation work at Wolfenbüttel's Stadtmarkt 15 has hit snags, pushing back completion dates and revealing unexpected issues. Asbestos was found in the wedding hall, causing a delay in its disposal. The west facade's scaffolding will remain until November, delaying the unveiling of the free facade view until after Christmas 2025.
Originally planned for early 2025, the renovation project has faced setbacks. Unexpected damage to the building's substance was discovered during work, contributing to delays. The Wolfenbüttel registry office has been operating from temporary quarters since 2021 due to these renovations. Despite these challenges, the social security administration expects the project to be finished by the end of June 2026.
Poor workmanship and slow progress in certain trades have also caused delays. Each old brick used for the roof required individual evaluation and securing before laying, further extending the timeline. However, the currently forecast costs of 7.20 million euros remain within the approved measure budget of 8.50 million euros.
The renovation of Stadtmarkt 15 in Wolfenbüttel is now expected to be completed by the end of June 2026, with costs staying within the approved budget. Despite delays and unexpected issues, the administration is working towards finishing the project as planned.
