Trial over dead baby found in pizza box - Mother acquitted - Woman acquitted after newborn's body found frozen in pizza box
A 33-year-old woman from Achim has been acquitted of manslaughter by omission after her premature baby died shortly after birth. The infant's body was later found in a pizza box inside her freezer, months after the incident.
The woman went into premature labour alone in her apartment but did not call for medical help. The baby, weighing just 940 grams at birth, died soon after. Medical experts later testified that the infant would likely not have survived even with immediate intervention.
Relatives discovered the body months later while searching the freezer. The woman had placed it inside a pizza box. During the trial, prosecutors argued that her failure to seek help constituted manslaughter by omission.
The court ultimately ruled that the woman's actions—or lack of them—did not meet the legal threshold for criminal liability. The verdict noted that the baby's survival chances were extremely low, regardless of medical care.
The case has now concluded with the woman's acquittal. The infant's remains were found months after the birth, stored in a freezer. Authorities confirmed no further legal action would be taken against her.
