A woman was found dead inside San Fernando Rey Parish Church in Liloan, Cebu on October 24, 2025. The Archdiocese of Cebu has ordered the temporary closure of the church due to the desecration of the sacred space. Cebu Archbishop Alberto Uy expressed deep sorrow over the crime and suspended all public acts of worship until a rite of reparation is performed.

The unidentified woman, believed to be around 30 years old, was discovered near the church entrance with visible head injuries, nose bleeding, and ligature marks around her neck. Police suspect she was beaten and possibly strangled. CCTV footage captured the victim entering the church with a man, who was later seen attacking her before fleeing the scene. The church will remain closed until the proper rite of reparation is performed, restoring its dignity as a house of prayer and peace. The investigation into the woman's death continues, and police urge anyone with information to come forward.
