Woman shows up to job interview with blood alcohol level 10 times over limit

A 45-year-old woman arrived at a job interview with a blood alcohol level of 4.75 per mille—far above the legal limit. The incident led to her arrest after staff at the retirement home alerted the police. She was later convicted of negligent drunk driving in court. The woman drove herself to the interview at a retirement home. Upon arrival, the personnel manager detected strong alcohol fumes and immediately contacted the authorities. Police confirmed her blood alcohol concentration at 4.75 per mille, an exceptionally high reading.

Initially, a court acquitted her of the charge. However, prosecutors appealed, and the ruling was overturned. The higher court found her guilty of negligent drunk driving. As a result, she received a €750 fine and lost her driving licence for at least six months. Records show this case stands out, as most alcohol-related traffic incidents in Germany involve lower levels. For instance, Brandenburg reported 1,104 alcohol-related accidents in 2025, but none reached such extreme readings.

The conviction highlights the serious legal consequences of driving under extreme intoxication. The woman's licence suspension and fine reflect the court's stance on endangering public safety. Data on similar cases remains limited, making this incident particularly notable.
