Germany’s female startup scene has hit a new milestone in 2024. The share of women launching businesses climbed to a record 8.5%, with Berlin leading the way. This growth reflects shifting trends in entrepreneurship, investment, and regional development across the country.

Berlin stood out as the top city for female entrepreneurship this year. More women there started businesses than in any other German region. Yet the rise isn’t limited to urban centres—rural areas are also seeing an uptick in women-led ventures.

Many of these new businesses focus on sustainability and local services. Unlike male-dominated startups, which often target global tech markets, female founders tend to build regional, service-based models. Their priorities frequently include eco-conscious practices and community impact. Investment patterns are changing too. While most informal investors are still men, women show a clear preference for backing other female entrepreneurs. This trend is creating a tighter support network within the female founder community, helping more women secure early-stage funding.

The 2024 figures mark a shift in Germany’s entrepreneurial landscape. With more women starting businesses in cities and rural areas alike, the gap between urban and regional entrepreneurship is narrowing. The growing network of female investors is also providing crucial support for new ventures led by women.
